Experience and Qualifications
With over 21 years experience in law enforcement, 4 years as a county commissioner, and 8 years as co-owner of a construction company, Gene feels he is well qualified in all aspects of the operation of the sheriff's department.
His experience with the Cumberland County Sheriff's department, Crossville Police Department, and the Atlantic Beach, Florida Police Department, has given Gene the necessary abilities to work with the public, fellow officers, and supervision experience of law enforcement personnel.
Experience of this nature is critical in the day to day supervision of the sheriff's department and its personnel. Knowledge of the law and the operation of the judicial system are imperative in the detection, prevention, and prosecution of crime.
Gene began his career in law enforcement in 1974 under Sheriff Dale Elmore as a radio dispatcher and was promoted to Deputy Sheriff a month later. Since 1974 Gene has served Cumberland County and the city of Crossville as a Deputy Sheriff, Patrol Sergeant, Staff Sergeant, School Resource Officer,
- Patrolman, Criminal Investigator and Detective. He is presently a detective with the Crossville Police Department.
- Serving 4 years as a county commissioner has given Gene the knowledge and ability to work hand in hand with the legislative branch of county government to provide our county with the best and most professional sheriff's department possible.
- Being a co-owner of a successful construction company gives Gene invaluable experience in planning, supervision, estimating and budget preparation.
All of these qualities will be put to use in the effective operation of the sheriff's department.
